Add personalisation by using tokens

In this article, we will explore the concept of personalised tokens and learn how to use them to create a more tailored and unique user experience.

A personalised token is a small piece of user generated text (like a name), which you can later reuse in various parts of your interactive story.

How to use Personalised tokens

To begin, we need to include an "Open Question" content block in your story.

This content block will prompt users to enter the information you want to use as a personalised token. For example, you could ask for their name, favourite hobby, or any other relevant input.

The 'Output variable as' is the name of the token which you can use in the rest of your story. In this instance, the token is called {{name}}, but you can give it any name you want. When the user doesn't provide an answer, you can put in a fallback name that will be displayed instead, like buddy, displayed above.

This token can be used in guidance text and everywhere inside a text editor.

Here you see an example of a token in 'Explanation after finish' where we use the name of the user to display after answering the question.

And that's it! 👍
Now go and make things personal.
